In this Wednesday night session we are graced by Danielle. The first three are each of my stages between breaks followed the final work.

F-F-F-Fabric

For my final drawing 1 class I taught how to plan and execute drawn fabric.

With some basic notes on the whiteboard and a handout we formulated a plan of attack. each student pinned the draping fabric along the wall before beginning.

 First by getting a good line drawing.

 Then by toning the overall value of the drapery.

 They by emphasizing the cast shadows and adding darker tones.

 Then erasing out for highlights and cleaning up around the drawn object.

 Ii think their pieces turned out fantastic.

We had a little critique and discussion at the end. Now my little birds have the skills to leave the nest and fly. (A small tear forms)

Still life studies

We sat down for a lecture about warm up protocol at the Atelier before beginning a look at light and the study of still life. A video crew came in to capture some shots for the new cSPACE King Edward website. I look forward to seeing what they do with it. Below are some snaps from my cellphone during the day session. I also subbed a teen still life class at ACAAD and drew this mannequin hand as my demo.

I teach figure drawing at ACAD. This week my lectures and demos centered around  proportion, proper measuring methods as well looking at idealized references like Hale and Loomis. These are some of the drawings at the end of class.

If you are interested in learning how to figure draw better, I will be opening up figure drawing sessions and long poses at my Atelier. It is instructed and It's a great opportunity to put in the necessary time and practice to get good it'll be cheap!

Second self portraits

I taught my final drawing 1 class at the Alberta College of Art ad Design this year.  I like to start with a self portrait and end on the same note in order to contrast and compare the improvements made through 24+ hrs of learning with me, it tends to be quite a difference. Some drew better from life than from photo even. In my 45 min lesson/demo I did a bunch of notes on the board of things to now and look for when drawing the face and head. I just managed to snap the end of much erasing ad drawing with a white board marker but you get the gist of it.
