Another "sampler", this time in oil

I prefer oil, and in this sampler I really let my knowledge shine. Its a far tougher medium, because so much history goes along with its use, but its rich creamy texture make is so worth the effort. This sampler went great as you can see below.......with so little time sample the medium for the first time.
Im refining my explanation with these whiteboard notes to accompany my handouts.

These samplers at Swinton's sell out quickly so sign up today on their website if you want to get in the next one!

Sample this

If you have never painted before, there is no real reason to be afraid.......
Try an oil or acrylic "Sampler" with me at Swinton's art supply and instruction one Sunday!
Get an overview of the process and all materials are included so you can try your hand at something new and creative.

You will leave with some experience
 and your first painting
and a head full of info
and you will know know whether or not its for you
and then again, you always have the choice
to paint right over it and start over anyhow!

Oil Sampler at Swinton's

I taught an oil sampler at Swinton's this Sunday before going up to the final showing and take down of my show at the New Edward Gallery. Here are some pics of my set up and some of the fantastic first time students at work on their first oil paintings.

Not bad, eh?
I must be a pretty good instructor ;P

Samplers at Swintons

It is the first Sampler of the new year at Swinton's  and what a fun one.
This one was Acrylic and next weeks sold out one is on oils.
I moved from Studio 2 into the big studio and was super early to set up everything, so I feel I did my best one yet. Below are a few pics I managed to snap during the acrylic sampler.

If you'd like to try a sampler with me go to Swintons website and sign up!

you've got to start somewhere....

I think everyone is naturally creative. we all come from different walks of life, with different experiences, influences and natural abilities. We all see the world in a unique way and art is a fantastic way for anyone to learn to express it visually. If you have never painted with either acrylic or oil before, a great place to start is the "Sampler" at Swinton's Art Supply, with me.

Participants learn the enough of the basics to get started and make their own small first painting in under 3 hrs. I answer any questions, show some tips and tricks and everyone leaves with their first painting in hand. The pieces below were all mad one Sunday by novices in under three hours if you can believe it.

I love teaching people who have never painted before, they have a clean slate and always impress me with their palette mixing and paintings. It always amazes me and impresses me how much a first time painter can accomplish and how well their paintings turn out in such a short period of time. It makes me feel very proud and fortunate to have been some part of their creative development Hopefully I inspire them enough to take on the gratifying challenges and life improvements art making brings =:D
