Fabric, windows and the process of time

Intriguing title. Maybe. Its more of a list of whats being going on really. I have so many different plates spinning, I need lists to keep track. Lol  Below is a demonstration I did of how to block in and break up the shapes to shade draped fabric.

I continue to make a lot of improvements in the studio space.
Being here for just over 9 months, she's ready to birth. I have a much better idea as how best to organize and address the needs of this space.
I hung overhead lights for figure modelling using the electrical outlet I purchased on the ceiling in the spring. I still have to go up a ladder to turn them on, maybe I can find a remote sensor or a clapper.
I also bought another folding table, after trying it out, I realized it is far to unstable for my needs. My male genes hate returning stuff, hopefully it's not too late, otherwise I have to keep it. You often do get what you pay for.
I had about 20 min after a Buds of Buds presentation to paint the door at the Bridgeland community centre. Stoked to have a snow bunny the kids can enjoy.
I added some snowflakes and wintery elements at the end and snapped this shot right before my iphone died.
Finally, I got some time over the week-end to plow through some details on older work that had been put on hold.
It took almost the entire day to work out the anatomical details to a degree that I was satisfied with.
I added some ground elements and will continue the push and pull of creating these pieces. i will be hanging them outside my studio wall int he cSPACE gallery on the 4th floor on Nov 25th.

How do you say "Bunny" in Polish?

I was commissioned by my best friend to make a special Christmas gift for the niece. She really loves her Bunny stuffy and they figured making an original piece of art celebrating it would make a great gift and more than likely last longer than the stuffed toy. I included my process below.

Sketching this a number of times, this piece gave me a surprising challenge, how to capture the essence of a simple stuffed toy. Once I got the sketch right I increased the design to fill the area to be painted.
I traced the design and transferred it with tracing paper and light grey chalk onto a Baltic birch panel.
I locked down the drawing and added a basic value map with a wash of warm Burnt Sienna paint.
I added middle value lights and darks in grey for my dead colour layer.
I then did some big form modelling in lighter and darker greys to create more form and coloured in the nose.
I knocked back the cool grey with a warm yellowish fur applied with thick strokes of paint to give the effect of the feeling of her soft plush toy.
I added details and brought back the outline with Burnt sienna to help pop the image off of the remaining wooden support. finally I signed and dated it on the back and added picture hanging supplies to the back, wrapped it and delivered it.  I heard she loved it and her mom was so appreciative she shed a tear. Win for the arts!!!

Awesomeness of facebook

I just put up a little razmataz awesomeness on my Facebook page and invented a new form of FB graffiti. Already many peeps have been asking how I did it. Well here's how!

~REVENGE OF THE NERD!!!~

There is a new feature as part of the FB layout, 5 of your latest images across the top.  I decided to take one of my bunny parade pictures and cut it up across the top.

1) I took a screen shot of my facebook profile page first, to get an idea of the size the images would be.

Really easy to do with Mac (Command + Shift + 3)
On a PC you may have to use Grab or another program.

2) I opened this image in Photoshop(any photo alteration program should work). I created another layer, cut and copied the entire layer and out each of the squares I wanted to fill.  I threw out the original layer, so what I had left was this image with squares cut out over a transparent background.

Simply cut out with the marquee.
The checkered background shows the transparency.

3) I selected an image I wanted to fill the squares with. I added a layer and inserted my image below the cut out Facebook template I just designed. It needed to be moved around and re-sized but in the end, I had basically what I would see on FB.

Here is the example with the layers shown at left so you get a basic idea of how it is stacked.

4) I took the Marquee tool and cut out and copied each of the 5 images and saved them as separate PNG files. No now I had 5 separate files named "Bunny- 1 - 5".

5) I went into my  Facebook account and opened a new photo album, I called it "Number 5 is Alive" so I would remember the 5 photos across the top go in  there.  Once the photos are uploaded to Facebook, comes the tricky part.....

6) Put them in order in the new FB Album. Tag them with your name,  from the LAST image to the FIRST.  Go to the end and tag using the 'previous' button, its quicker.   I found out, if you tag them in the regular order, the pictures will be in the reverse order. The funny thing is they should replace the ones that were there. 5 across the top.

Trouble shooting:
If someone else tags a photo of you more recently it will pop into the left most square. Now this is not really a problem actually, just un-tag them all in your album and redo the process. Hmm, this can be a mess, but it also has the potential for other things..............

Causing trouble:
The same is true if you decide to put this up on other peoples, tag them in reverse too. He he. Geurilla  FB advertising.

MAYBE I'VE GIVEN YOU TOO MUCH INFO, HERE IS HOW TO CREATE A FB MONSTER!
I take no responsibility for how you decide to use this information, even if it annoys your friends, it is all in good fun! Who knows, enough of this an FB may change how tagging works!

To remove: All they have to do to get rid of them is un-tag themselves in my photos.

Here is bunny having some fun my poking his head into his closest friends FB pages today =;)

"I see you!"
